What is ACA?

The best way for me to write about Adult Children of Alcoholics (ACA) is to reprint from their website.

Welcome to ACA. Adult Children of Alcoholics is an anonymous Twelve StepTwelve Tradition program of women and men who grew up in an alcoholic or otherwise dysfunctional homes. We meet with each other in a mutually respectful, safe environment and acknowledge our common experiences. We discover how childhood affected us in the past and influences us in the present (see The Laundry List, and The Problem). We take positive action. By practicing the Twelve Steps, focusing on The Solution, and accepting a loving Higher Power of our understanding, we find freedom from the past and a way to improve our lives today.”

The FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) page answers these questions:

  2. What is ACA (ACoA)… ?
  3. Do my parents need to be alcoholics… ?
  4. What is the cost… ?
  5. Is ACA a religious organization?
  6. What is a Higher Power … ?
  7. Where is a meeting… ?
  8. How do I find a meeting when there is none in my area?
  9. How do I start a meeting…?
  10. Can I attend a “Closed Meeting”?

Buy ACA Red Book and other literature. It is amazing and I hope you will be as blessed by reading the literature as I have been.  In my humble opinion, the ACA Red Book is the 3rd most important literature to help with recovery from addiction.
