The use of social media can be as diverse and as individual as each business using it. This article will include the uses in effect now.

Humana‘s Director of Consumer Innovations, Greg Matthews, uses social media to communicate with Humana’s customers and which he blogs about his experiences in his delightful blog, CrumpleitUp.com.

In attitudebranding.com, he writes about his experiences. I especially recommend his first sentence. “Humana made the decision to step- lightly-into social media.” In beginning the Humana social media campaign, they decided to develop a set of principles to live by–which became “The Town Square”. Each Humana department has a “lot” on the time square. The main concept I learned from this post was for companies to hire their social media employees who have creativity.

In developing the Town Square, Greg and the Web/New Media organized a team of 17 employees from 14 different departments which they call the “Chamber of Commerce”. Read the whole article for new ideas.

The BuzzNetworker has collected some great posts about social networking tips and tricks. Anna Farmery lists the bloggers with the title of each post. I love how easy it is to retweet this article so, of course, I did.

No one does better organizing of information than Robin Broitman. In her blog, interactiveinsightsgroup, she posts LinkedIn Superguide, which includes tutorials, tips and tools. Her posts are so detailed that you will frequently need no other posts.

She also has a free ebook entitled “How to Get Started in Social Networking”.

In Mashable: The Social Media Guide, Dan Schawbel lists 5 Lessons Celebrities Can Teach Us About Facebook Pages. He is also the Author of the book, Me 2.0: Build a Powerful Brand to Achieve Career Success.
