What are quick links? They are links to subjects that I believe will be of interest to others. A lot of them I get from Twitter because, in spite of all the junk Twitters, I still love Twitter to get my creativity running. I mainly post retweets on Twitter as I use my blogs to reflect my interests. I couldn’t use Twitter without TweetDeck. How we each use social media is determined by our individual needs.
One of these days I’ll post my social media strategy. I will be happier using Twitter after they have added search. Now that Facebook has, it won’t be long until I can search my brains out on Twitter. As I’ve written before, I rarely use Google because it isn’t real-time. I have used Delicious for awhile until I found TweetDeck. I only go on TweetDeck after I’ve finished planning my day and began whatever is pending for the day.
I use small legal pads for my “brain dump” and only have 3 goals per day. Period. I may only finish one. But each day, I renegotiate what is important enough for me to spend my daily life on it. I practice mindfulness—staying in the moment– so I want to be happy, have fun, enjoy my life and be productive as needed every day.
I am publishing what tools I am using presently in a sidebar column. One of those tools, Google Reader, is where I “follow” 516 blogs. Do I want to spend my life following the daily posts of 516 people? No, I do not. I scan the headlines from the posts and if I need some post links for what I want to write about, I use Google Reader now. As I’m using Twitter more, I am using Reader less.
But, back to quick links. I’ve seen some blogs lately that take a topic and list blog links that exactly mated the specific topic used. The best I’ve seen is interactiveinsightgroup. Robin must never sleep because she continually has really great link lists according to topic. Throwing together link links takes no time until you start cataloging them by topic. Some of the ones I’ve done: “Changing Jobs Directory”, “Helping Other Groups” and “Work at Home Directory” each took hours to compile.
For my posts about the quick links I like, I use the following formula:
1. I try to post each quick links posts around the same topic. I also try to post around one aspect of the topic I choose. I can’t always do this but this is what I aim for.
2. I like to add a sentence or two with one of the main ideas for the author.
3. I always try to include the exact name of the post.
4. I include a direct link to the post.
